Ft. Lauderdale, Florida

FT. LAUDERDALE - The city of Ft. Lauderdale is located in Broward County, Florida, and has a population of about 165,000 people. The city remains a popular tourist destination with bars and restaurants located throughout the city.

Some of the popular night clubs and hotspots are located downtown on streets such as Las Olas Boulevard and in areas such as Rush Street. Automobiles generally park in garages or on the street at parking meters. Shows and entertainment are on display at the Broward County Convention Center.

There are plenty of restaurants and bars to be found in downtown Ft. Lauderdale. Some of these establishments include Roccos Tacos, YOLO, Tarpon Bend, the Elbo Room and Mangos among many other places to wine and dine. There are also terrific hotels such as the "W" Hotel, the Marriott, and the Hilton, which are all located on A1A on Ft. Lauderdale Beach.

There is more than one government center in Fort Lauderdale as well. In downtown Ft. Lauderdale, there is the Broward County Courthouse, located at 201 Southeast 6th Street, and there is also the Federal Government Building located off of Broward Boulevard.

The Broward County Central Courthouse is where the State of Florida prosecutes its cases. Everything from a speeding ticket or traffic ticket up to a first degree murder trial is handled at this courthouse. Also, all family law matters and civil cases are handled here as well. All jury trials in Broward County are handled at the Broward County Central Courthouse in Fort Lauderdale.

Just outside of Fort Lauderdale there are three other courthouses known as the West Satellite Courthouse in Plantation, the South Satellite Courthouse in Hollywood, and the North Satellite Courthouse in Deerfield Beach, Florida. These satellite courthouses handle traffic and criminal traffic matters as well as small claim civil cases.

There are several important roadways that run through Ft. Lauderdale and its surrounding area as well. Interstate 595, also known as I-595, is approximately a 12.5 mile highway that runs East to West across Broward County. Interstate 595 runs from East Ft. Lauderdale all the way West to the city of Weston. I-595 runs through towns such as Plantation and passes exits such as University Drive, Nob Hill Road, and Hiatus Road, just to name a few. This interstate is heavily traveled and is currently under construction. During rush hour, motorists can expect congestion and traffic on this very popular roadway.

Other popular roadways in Broward County include A1A, also known as "beachfront avenue," the Florida Turnpike, the Sawgrass Expressway, and Interstate 95, also known as I-95. All of these roadways have varying speed limits and will likely have traffic during rush hour or if an accident took place on one of these roadways or highways.

The State of Florida still remains a very popular tourist destination due to the terrific weather in the winter and has its share of sports teams which provide a wonderful source of entertainment. The Miami Dolphins play in Sun Life Stadium, located in Miami Gardens, which is just South of Ft. Lauderdale. Currently, that stadium is shared with the Florida Marlins, who represent South Florida in Major League Baseball. The Florida Panthers play in Sunrise, Florida, which is just west of Ft. Lauderdale, and represent South Florida in the National Hockey League. And the Miami Heat play in Miami, Florida, just south of Ft. Lauderdale, and represent the area in the National Basketball Association, also known as the NBA.
